下島の家 ”コートハウス”

​

「バスケットゴールのある家がほしい」住宅計画時の初期に膨らむ夢の中でも、一番に却下されるような、
冗談のようなこの要望に対し、真剣に向き合った。
これは、住宅とバスケットコートを組み合わせた家である。コートと呼ばれる空間は、家の中心に位置している。
旧来の間取りでいえば、玄関ホールともリビングとも言える。実際のバスケットコートの約1/4程の広さ、
6mの天井高さがある。本物のバスケットリングが、正規の高さ（3,050mm）に設置されていて、
この広さによって、フリースロー程度ならストレスなく打てる。他にも、体育館の構成要素を住宅に取り込んでおり、
回遊性のあるキャットウォークは、ライブラリーを兼ねたものとした。体育館に付帯する部室のように、
コートの左右に部屋を配置し、壁面は、多数ある部室を連想させるような意匠とした。
これらの設計により、住宅は小さな体育館のようになり、体験したことがあるような、無いような。
広いのか、狭いのか分からない。不思議なスケール感を持つ家となった。体育館という空間には通常なにも無い。
この住宅にもその価値を感じることができる。
その余白に多様な可能性を感じさせる建築となった。

BASKETBALL COURT HOUSE

Basketball Court House. For this house project,

we’ve tried to create a new relation between indoor basketball court and living house.

The layout arrangement of this house is inspired by typical gymnasium layouts,

where we have the indoor basketball court planned in centre core space of the house,

with rooms located on opposite sides of the court. 
The house is designed with a unique scale,

which makes it hard to define whether the interior space is grand or narrow; the basketball court is ?

the size of a regular basketball court, with a 3050mm high basketball ring,

and a 6000mm high ceiling, which is even large enough to play free-throws.

The centre court is also designed to be multi-purpose, with a possibility in becoming a home library,

and more possibilities to be explored by the client over time.
